Follow coffee and tea with the matinee performance of The Fantasticks
Mom's
ticket is FREE! in The Round Barn Theatre's opening production
of the 2008 season. The Fantasticks is the longest running
musical in American theatre history with 17,162 performances in over
forty years in New York's off-Broadway. Written by Tom Jones and
Harvey Schmitt it is the ultimate love story told through every theatrical
genre. No love songs have ever been sung more often than "Soon
it's Gonna Rain," "Try to Remember," and "Round
and Round."
The Fantasticks is simply the most amazing story in American musical history. It ran longer than the The Phantom of the Opera and Cats combined; more than the total of A Chorus Line, Beauty and the Beast, and Rent plus nearly double the total of The Lion King, 42nd Street, and Fiddler on the Roof!
The Wall Street Journal called The Fantasticks “The perfect musical.” It has every ingredient ever put into a perfect stew. Boy’s father and Girl’s Father want Boy and Girl to fall in love; therefore, pretend to feud to insure Boy and Girl go against the parent’s wishes. El Gallo, the Bandit, stands by to assist the Old Actor and his Sidekick, Mortimer, add the philosophy necessary to understand this fickleness of human nature and love. It even takes a Mute to fully explain this Fantastick love story to you.
The cast is comprised of Round Barn Theatre alumni making it a special homecoming treat. You’ll see old favorites Joe Ford as El Gallo, Matthew C. Scott as Hucklebee, the Boy’s Father, Jeremy Littlejohn as Bellomy, the Girl’s Father, Don Hart as Henry, The Old Actor, Sam Brown as The Man Who Dies (he thinks he’s an American Indian) and Lance Mullins as the Mute. Only Trisha Hart Ditsworth, Luisa, The Girl, and Michael Wolter, Matt, The Boy, are debuting on the Joseph Stein Stage. All of this deceptively simple musical tale will be directed by Brett Egan Schrier.
