Lt. Governor Kernan Announces Local Hospitality Award Winner
May 6, 1998
NAPPANEE, Ind. – Lt. Gov. Joe Kernan today announced the Elkhart County winner of the inaugural Lieutenant Governor’s Enjoy Indiana Hospitality Awards. Susan Osborne, of Nappanee, won the Elkhart County award. Twenty-nine winners have been selected statewide, with no more than one winner per county.
The awards were designed to help celebrate National Tourism Week, held the first week of May each year. They also are a part of Indiana Tourism’s new $2.5 million marketing campaign, which promotes Hoosier hospitality. The promotion, the largest ever by Indiana Tourism, includes a new logo and slogan, that encourages potential visitors to "Enjoy Indiana – The Welcome Mat’s Always Out."
"These awards honor the front-line employees who really make tourism work for Indiana," said Kernan. "Indiana has exciting attractions throughout the state, and the industry has created an excellent campaign to market those attractions. But none of this would be possible without dedicated people at the local level who make our visitors feel special and make their getaways more enjoyable through exceptional service."
Susan Osborne’s efforts as group sales director for Amish Acres brought numerous travel groups to Indiana from not only cities across the nation, but Europe as well. By continuously striving for new ideas, packages, and activities for travel groups, she worked to ensure that these groups return repeatedly. She went above and beyond for all her guests and established great business relationships with several of the attraction’s patrons throughout her seven years of employment.
