NAPPANEE, INDIANA - Leisure Group Travel magazine has chosen Amish Acres Arts and Crafts Festival as one of their "Top 50 Festivals & Events" for 2002. According to editor George Lowden, "There are thousands of traditional festivals and special events held across our country throughout the year, ranging from Mardi Gras in early February to the Christmas holiday events. They include musical offerings from Bach to bluegrass, arts and crafts shows, colorful parades complete with spectacular floats, historical reenactments, live entertainment, food festivals, flower shows and more. The following major festivals and events were chosen from among hundreds of special celebrations that were considered, each boasting great appeal for motor coach groups in the year 2002!"
Amish Acres Arts and Crafts Festival will celebrate its 40th anniversary August 8 - 11, 2002 and is the only Indiana event listed in the November issue. Among the other forty-nine selections are Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon, GA, Fiesta San Antonio, Dollywood's Festival of Nations in Pigeon Forge, TN, Boston Harborfest, and Magnificent Mile Art Festival in Chicago, IL.
Richard Pletcher, founder, stated, "We are honored by this distinguished selection and are already planning for a not-to-be-forgotten 40th anniversary celebration during the four day event. We pride ourselves in pleasing both the 365 exhibitors from across the country and the loyal festival goers, offering a juried high-quality marketplace, family entertainment on three stages, festive food, paddleboat rides, live theatre including Plain & Fancy and West Side Story, family style Threshers Dinner, guided tours, hay wagon rides, and two award-winning country inns. In fact, we know through the artists' votes in Sunshine Artist Magazine that we do please, because we are rated one of the top two hundred shows and further ranked as the 24th best Traditional Arts & Crafts Festival in the country, the highest ranking in Indiana."
