Amish Pioneer grave stone replaced
in time for Manasses T. Kuhns Reunion

Barbara Stahly, considered by some historians to be the first Amish settler in Indiana, is buried in the Weldy Cemetery, west of Nappanee. Her 150 year old stone was found missing from her grave in the spring of 2001 by Richard Pletcher. The stone was found lying near the road. With the help of Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, the nearly illegible original image was recreated through a rubbing. The original sandstone monument has now been replaced with a duplicate stone made of marble. Barbara Stahly is the great grandmother of Manasses Kuhns.  The new stone was paid for by Amish Acres.
