The Joseph Stein Young Actors Studio presents the 2008 Main Stage Production of Willy Wonka. Teen age actors are chosen from open auditions and represent high schools from across northern Indiana.

Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,” which features the songs from the classic family film “Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.”

Willy WonkaAll of your favorite characters and songs (including “The Candy Man” and “Pure Imagination”) are featured in this show that overflows with music, comedy and heart. The memorable score by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, augmented by several new songs, has been neatly fitted into a new script adapted under the auspices of the Roald Dahl Estate. Willy Wonka is a scrumdidilyumptious new stage musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.

Technical and Artistic Staff

Regina Warren (Director) is thrilled to be making her directing debut at The Round Barn Theate. Some of her past directing credits include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Father of the Bride, and Charlotte’s Web at Lincoln Junior High in Plymouth, Proof at Bethel College, and Anastasia Krupnik at South Bend Civic Theatre. As an actor, some of her favorite onstage credits include Aunt March in Little Women, the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, and Ms. Tessman in Hedda Gabler. Regina is a recent graduate of Bethel College with degrees in English Education, Communications, and Theatre Arts.  “Special thanks the late Dr. Earl Reimer and the Bethel College Theatre Staff for rooting me on in everything I do. And to the Tyrees’ and Jane Nelson for lighting the theatre spark in me during high school and continuing to support and encourage me throughout the years.” 

Amber Bontrager (Music Director) is a music teacher at Granger Christian School. She appeared at The Round Barn Theatre last season in the productions of The Will Rogers Follies and White Christmas. Last year, she served as the music director for Canterbury Summer Theatre in Michigan City. Amber is a recent graduate of Bethel College with a degree in Music Education. She is also a private piano instructor and is getting married next month.   

Scott Saegesser (Choreographer / Costume Designer) is in his thirteenth season at The Round Barn Theatre where he has served in several capacities including actor, director, choreographer, company manager, costume designer and artistic director. After this production, Scott will be leaving the theatre to pursue his other passion, fitness. He currently works at Maple City Racquet and Fitness in Goshen and Nappanee Health and Fitness in Nappanee. He is extremely happy and grateful to have been working in theatre for over 25 years and wishes to express his love and thanks to everyone that he has been privileged to work with here at The Round Barn Theatre.

Cast Biographies

Amish AcresCelina Davis (Veruca) is a seventh grade home school student from Warsaw.  Some of her favorite past productions include Watch Me Shine and Raise the Flag. Other than performing, Celina enjoys volleyball, writing, and singing.

 

 

Amish AcresThomas Eiser (Mr. Salt) is a freshman at Triton Jr/Sr High School in Bourbon. He was seen on the Joseph Stein stage as Jack Scott in last year’s production of High School Musical and in the 2006 production of Fiddler on the Roof. Other roles include Stage Manger in Our Town and Jack in Into the Woods. And he recently played Major-General Stanley in Pirates of Penzance at Triton.

Amish AcresSusan Grothouse (Grandma Georgina / Mrs. Gloop) is a junior at Warsaw Community High School and is glad to be back on The Round Barn Theatre Stage, having played the role of Martha Cox in last year’s High School Musical. She has frequented the ensemble of her high school’s productions, performing in Carousel, Guys and Dolls, and Seussical. Most recently she played Mrs. Orcutt in Stage Door atWarsaw. When not performing, Susan enjoys reading, writing prose, choir, and Key Club.

Amish AcresHaley Jaggers (Oompa-Loompa) is a senior at Plymouth High School. Some of her favorite roles include the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, Countess Dracula in Spook House, and Frenchy in Grease.  She is also a member of Speech & Debate. In the fall, Haley will attend Bethel College where she will major in Business Administration, Communications, and Theatre Arts. 

Amish AcresAlex Kilmer (Oompa-Loompa) is in the 4th grade at Trinity Lutheran School in Elkhart.  Previously at The Round Barn, Alex played James Rogers in The Will Rogers Follies.  He also played Chip in Beauty and the Beast for Elkhart Civic Theatre. This summer, Alex will be attending the Beginnings Workshop in New York to study voice, dance, and acting.

Amish AcresTyler Miller (Wonka) is proud to return to the Joseph Stein stage after performing last year in High School Musical. Tyler’s favorite past productions include Bye Bye Birdie and Crazy For You at Northwood High School, Mishawaka Park Players productions of Grease and Footloose, along with Aladdin and Godspell with Premier Arts at the Elco Theatre. Tyler is a senior at Northwood High School, where he is involved in show choir and acapella vocal jazz ensemble. Tyler will continue his schooling next fall at Purdue University, where he will pursue his dream of becoming a pilot. 

Amish AcresLance Mullins (Phineous Trout / Oompa-Loompa) is a recent graduate of Northwood High School. His favorite roles include Mereb in Aida at Northwood, Lefou in Beauty and the Beast with Elkhart Civic Theatre, and as the nerd in The Round Barn’s production of High School Musical. Lance was recently seen as Jay in RBT’s Second Stage Production of Lost in Yonkers and is currently playing the Mute in The Fantasticks

Amish AcresJohn Patrick (Candy Man / Oompa-Loompa) is a junior at Plymouth High School.  Some of his favorite roles include Edmund in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in Spook House, and most recently he played Doody in Grease.  John also portrayed Larry Hastings in Bells Are Ringing with the Maxincukee Players. John’s school activities include the National Honor Society, Crimson Connection, Alpha Delta Rho, Speech & Debate, and he is a representative for the Encore Performing Arts.

Amish AcresThomas Reid (Grandpa George / Oompa-Loompa) is a junior at Northwood High School. Last year he played Ryan Evans in High School Musical at The Round Barn Theatre. Some of his favorite Northwood productions include Crazy for You, Children of Eden, and Fiddler on the Roof. Thomas is also involved in choir and marching band.

 

Amish AcresEmily Reth (Violet) is a freshman at John Adams in South Bend. She is ecstatic to be back at The Round Barn Theatre since the 2006 production of Fiddler on the Roof. Other past performances include Little Boy, Seven Second Chances, and Sense and Sensibility with the Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Emily also appeared in the fall production Design for Murder at John Adams. 

Amish AcresCamden Robertson (Augustus) is a sophomore at Plymouth High School. Some of his onstage credits include The Wizard of Oz and The Variety Show at Plymouth High School and Washburn Cummings in Anastasia Krupnik with South Bend Civic Theatre. Cam also played the title roles in Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth at the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival. He is also involved in broadcasting, Speech & Debate, tennis, and he is an athletic manager.

Amish AcresTanner Smale (Mr. Bucket / Mr. Beauregarde) is a senior at Elkhart Memorial High School. Last year, Tanner played Troy Bolton in High School Musical at The Round Barn Theatre. Other shows include Footloose, Once Upon A Mattress, and All Shook Up. Most recently he was seen playing the title role in Aladdin at the Elco Performing Arts Center.

Amish AcresTy Stutsman (Mike) is a senior at Northwood High School. He has been part of several high school productions as well as Round Barn Theatre productions of High School Musical and most recently as Artie in RBT’s Second Stage Production of Lost in Yonkers.  Ty is also involved with the show choir and a cappella group at Northwood. Next year, Ty plans to travel overseas for Jesus!

Amish AcresAnn Thompson (Grandma Josephina / Ms. Teavee) is happy to return to The Round Barn Theatre where she was last seen as Kelsi in High School Musical. Ann is a freshman at Chesterton High School and has appeared in many community theatre productions throughout Northwest Indiana over the past eight years. Her most recent film appearance was in the SAG short film titled Ready, OK! 

Nicole Tompkins (Charlie) is a junior at Saint Joseph's High School in South Bend. She has been on stage since the age of 6 and has performed in over 20 productions throughout the area. Some of her favorite roles include Lily in Annie at St. Joe High School, Gabriella in Disney's High School Musical at The Round Barn Theatre, and playing herself in Godspell at the Elco Performing Arts Center. Recently, she was seen in Aladdin at the Elco. This summer, Nicole will study Musical Theatre at Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan.

Amish AcresJon Tyree (Grandpa Joe) is a sophomore at Plymouth High School, where he recently was seen as a T-Bird in Grease.  Other past roles include the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Huck Finn in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and the title character in The Father of the Bride. Jon also participated in Romeo and Juliet and MacBeth at The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival. Jon’s other activities include tennis, Speech & Debate, broadcasting, and stage crew.

Amish AcresNancy Tyree (Mrs. Bucket) is a senior at Plymouth High School, and is no stranger to the stage. Some past experiences at Plymouth High School include: the White Witch in The Lion,The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Grace in Annie, and most recently Rizzo in Grease.  Nancy was also Robin in Little Red Ridding Hood and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel with Missoula Children’s Theatre. Nancy is involved in Speech & Debate, Crimson Connection, Alpha Delta Rho, Key Club, National Honor Society, and she serves on the board for the Marshall County Red Cross. Nancy will be studying English at Indiana University next fall.
