Book: Dean Pitchford &
Walter Bobbie
Music: Tom Snow
Lyrics: Dean Pitchford
This musical is a stage
adaptation of the phenomenally successful 1984 movie by the same name.
The movie’s soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard
charts, sold over 15 million copies and was nominated for an Oscar.
All of your favorite songs from the movie are here from the title
number to Let’s Hear It For the Boy and Almost Paradise plus
some additional songs by Tom Snow and Dean Pitchford.
Footloose follows the
story of a teenage boy named Ren who moves from Chicago to a small
farming town. While adapting to his new surroundings and school, Ren
is outraged to find that the town has several rigorous local laws
including a ban on dancing and rock and roll music.
This is a plan set forth by the town’s preacher to help keep
control over the young people in town. His daughter immediately falls
for Ren, much to the dismay of her roughneck boyfriend, who sets out
to sabotage the city boy. With the whole town against him, Ren manages
to turn things around for himself and gain freedom for all of the
young people in town. This musical is truly a celebration of what
it means to be a young person in America and reminds us all to keep
an open mind to change.
