Based on the novel by:
Mark Twain
Book: Ken Ludwig
Music and Lyrics: Don Schlitz
Based on the classic story by Mark Twain, this Broadway
musical adaptation brings one of America’s most beloved literary
characters to exuberant life on the stage. The whole family will enjoy
seeing Tom and his friend Huck Finn and girlfriend Becky Thatcher,
set out on their many escapades.
Whether it is Tom tricking his friends into whitewashing a fence,
the whole trio getting lost in McDougal’s cave or all of the
town’s children taking on the schoolmaster Lemuel Dobbins, there
is rollicking fun throughout with toe-tapping songs and foot-stomping
dances. Set in the town of St. Petersburg, Missouri in 1840, this
musical serves up a big slice of Americana, like apple pie and lemonade
on a Sunday afternoon in summertime.
You will see Tom cross swords with all of his foes, from his stern
Aunt Polly and his bratty half-brother Sid to the righteous Reverend
Sprague and the evil Injun Joe. All of your favorite characters will
be there, singing bright and bouncy songs by Don Schiltz. This hilarious
adaptation of Twain’s book was written by Ken Ludwig who wrote
the Broadway comedies Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo
as well as the musical Crazy For You. You won’t
want to miss this adventurous musical ride down the muddy Mississippi
River.
